MT GAMBIER LIBRARY:
www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au/library Mon-Fri: 9-6 (7 on Thu); Sat-Sun: 10-4
The new Mount Gambier Library has a fantastic local history collection (in the Les Hill Room) including full set of Border Watch, loads of catalogued photographs and books. Very helpful staff. You can also view many Kennedy photographs online (I found a photo of Tom Kennedy, in Year 7 at Mt Gambier High!) http://mtgambier.spydus.com/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/MSGTRN/OPAC/RESEARCH .
In the Les Hill Room there are several copies of Second to None, a story of the rural pioneers of Mount Gambier, by Pam and Brian O’Connor, published by the District Council of Mt Gambier in 1988. Interesting and detailed chapters include: “Part IV, 33. The Kennedys of Peweena, Cadzow and Sunnybrae” and “Part III, 11. The Suttons of Dismal Swamp”.
MT GAMBIER LAKE TERRACE CEMETERY:
John Kennedy’s grave is not far from the entrance in Section CA, on the right along Main Drive and near the grave of Johannes Matthias Jens (born in Germany 1841, died 30 June 1915) who built Jens Hotel in 1884. Online you can obtain a full list of Kennedys or other families buried in the cemetery: Click here for the link:
